Thanksgiving: Considered

As I look back over the last year, the Lord has brought me through a lot and continues to sanctify me through His Word, life’s circumstances, and people. Through reflecting on this year the word “consider” comes to mind. In order to reflect on a year I’ve got to stop and consider.

As I look to God’s Word for there a number of verses of scripture that appropriately and concisely sum-up a heart of thanksgiving for 2010.

God’s Care & Love. “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:3-4).

Thank you Lord that in your infinite love and love for me.

Christ Better Than Anything Else. “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8-9).

Heavenly Father, thank you that You are again now and for eternity and everything else this world has to offer is losse!

Trials. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”
(James 1:5)

Lord, thank you for the trials. They show me Your greatness, my dependence on You, and refine me to be more like your son, Jesus.

The Gospel. “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given to me – the task of testifying to God’s grace.” (Acts 20:24)

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the gospel.
